Bears for Humanity

Bears for Humanity and I have teamed up to tell you about their great products that are not only cute, they are also on a very important mission. This company is helping our community, while also helping the Earth. "From farm to fulfillment, our products are made using only certified organic materials and Fair Trade practices, while employing at-risk women from welfare-to work programs right here in the US." These are important factors that we don't generally take into consideration while stuffed animal shopping. Well, at least I haven't in the past. However, after seeing my kids reactions to these and reading more about Bears for Humanity, I feel like we should be looking into these factors before we do most of our shopping!

These are more then just stuffed animals you guys. They are GOTS Certified Organic Cotton, are built in the US through Welfare-to-Work programs (as I stated above), and have a wonderful buy one, give one policy! With every purchase you make, they donate a bear to a child in need. You can even write out the note that will be included on their gift card. How sweet is that? I love the idea of spreading the love and also sending it along with a little note with it. My family was gifted the monkey, cat, and giraffe, and both my kids were so excited to get their hands on them. These animals are for ages 0+, but I have to say, my five and eight year old kids were pumped to have them!

The quality of these animals are amazing. Not only are they super soft and fluffy (as in the softest you can imagine), they are also done with beautiful craftsmanship. Every stitch, every arm or leg, all just wonderfully made. I mean, even the tag is soft and nice to hug. My kids generally want all tags cut, but not this time. My daughter actually pointed out to me how soft the tag was and how she had to keep it on. That is a huge stamp of approval in my house. My son is also a tough one when it comes to stuffed animals. He has quite a few sensory issues and he was immediately drawn to the monkey and his "soft ears and fuzzy tail". He looked up at me and said "Can I sleep with this one? I think Lamby will love him." For those of you who are new to reading my blog, Lamby is a stuffed animal that has been in our family for eight years. Over the years he shows up on the blog and my snapchat (@stilettosanddb), so for him to want another doll in his bed with Lamby, this is a big deal!

Full on Obsession with Full Skirts

This skirt is everything! It is hands down my favorite item of clothing and I wear it more then any other item in my wardrobe on a weekly basis. It's so light weight and full, I love the movement I get every time I walk around. This skirt has kicked my maxi skirt obsession into high gear, but honestly, it's this skirt that I am obsessed with. How do you not fall more in love with full skirts after seeing this beauty?

This skirt is such a beautiful print and you have so many options of what to pair it with. On this day, I went with a classic chambray top. I love that this outfit can be dressed up or down and in true "me fashion" I went with dressing it up! By adding nude heels, lots of Park Lane Jewelry, a coral headband, and cut-out bag, my outfit was perfect for some live music and a night out.

My Current Skincare Routine

 photo IMG_3105_zpsvucb2slv.jpg

I have been using Glo Therapeutics for the past four weeks and I wanted to share it with you guys because I am loving it all! Yes, Glo Therapeutics did gift me these products, but they did not ask me to share my review with you. I wanted to do so because my skin has been looking amazing and these products are the reason why! As most of your know, I am a huge fan of Glo Minerals as well. I wear their lip colors weekly (for about two years now) and my obsession is only growing. It seemed a natural progression to try their skincare line, no?

Here is the rundown of my daily routine. There are five products that I use, four each day alternating the two masks every other day. I spoke with an associate and these are the products that were recommended for my skin type and summer skin needs.

If I had to pick one product that is my favorite I'd say it was the Pumpkin Enzyme Scrub. The smell is to die for! Hello pumpkin pie, you smell so good I want to eat you! ;) And my skin after the entire routine? Soft, smooth, fresh, hydrated, and blemish free! I would highly recommend these products to anyone. Truly!

What is your skincare routine? Have you tried Glo Therapeutics before?

Product Review: Function of Beauty

How cool is this custom shampoo & conditioner set? I love seeing my name on the bottle and I am a big fan of the scent & what it is that the set does for my hair. Let me back up a bit & start from the beginning.

I was asked if I'd like to try out custom shampoo & conditioner from Function of Beauty. After agreeing, I headed over to their website and picked out literally everything about them based on my needs and tastes! The selection process is broken down into three main topics; profile, goals, & fragrance. For my profile, I chose wavy, fine, & normal hair. My goals were color protection, hydrate, anti-frizz, shine, & lengthen and the fragrance I chose is grapefruit hibiscus. That explains why I love what it has been doing for my hair the past three weeks and the scent so much...I made it that way!

 photo IMG_2033_zps8ldpx8af.jpg

My only critique would be that the although the packaging is adorable, it's not super functional. When you pump the product, to get the amount of shampoo that you need to get a good lather going, is about 10 pumps. This style bottle would be better for a lotion if that makes sense. You also don't get too much bang for your buck. I am 3 weeks into using these products, and the bottles are almost gone. Again, I am loving the products as they really do deliver what it says it will, I just wish there was more of it for the price. This 8oz set retails for $26 & the 16oz set is $38.

Overall, I am a big fan of Function of Beauty. I love the concept and how it displays your name on the front. Plus, I can't wait to see what is in their future. I can't believe this company has only been around for 1 year!

Have you ever tried custom shampoo & conditioner? What do you think of Function of Beauty?

Recipe: Crustless Quiche

 photo IMG_2390_zps8e1sf7e6.jpg

I was recently on a quest to find a recipe for a crustless quiche. My mom made one that was out of this world, and I couldn't stop thinking about it in the weeks that followed. The day I went shopping, she was already at work and I didn't want to wait to get the recipe, so I used my best friend Google to find a similar one. I used the recipe I found on Allrecipes, but tweaked it a bit to fit my family's tastes.

1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
1/2 onion, chopped
1 (10 oz) package frozen chopped spinach, thawed and drained
6 eggs, beaten
3 cups shredded cheese of choice
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon ground black pepper
garlic scapes (I chopped up 2 to add. Fresh from my farmers market & wanted to use!)

 photo IMG_2392_zpsbaikin5w.jpg

-Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease a 9 inch pie pan.
-Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-hight heat. Add onion and garlic and cook, stirring occasionally, until onion are soft. Stir in spinach and continue cooking until excess moisture has evaporated.
-In a large bowl, combine eggs, cheese, salt, & pepper. Add spinach mixture and stir to bland. Scoop into prepared pie pan.
-Bake in preheated oven until eggs have set, about 30 minutes. Let cool for 10 minutes before serving.

 photo IMG_2394_zpsya8dfmwt.jpg photo IMG_2398_zpsslytbacq.jpg photo IMG_2400_zpsoqxixuz5.jpg photo IMG_2399_zpsncdwzkja.jpg photo IMG_2413_zpsjduitwyo.jpg

The quiche turned out so yummy! I did not wait the entire 10 minutes for it to cool, and I can see how that would have been better to do. ;) The entire family could not get enough and it was very filling. I can't wait to make this recipe again!

 photo IMG_2415_zpskuqrwbdh.jpg

I also set up a juice & mimosa bar. This part was a major crowd pleaser. My kids loved "taste testing" the different juices and who doesn't love a fun straw? Who says you can't go all out for just your family? Obviously the quiche and juice bar would be perfect for a group brunch for family gathering as well.

Luck is Everywhere!

 photo file__storage_emulated_0_DCIM_Camera_20160706_163903_zps8t9xhhk0.jpg
You may recall from previous years that I am one lucky lady who gets the pleasure of working with the Illinois State Lottery. In the past, they have sent me to see Erykah Badu and 311 so this year when they reached out, I couldn't wait to see who was playing. I was elated to find out they would be sending me to see The Roots and Donnie Trumpet. The excitement grew and I felt super lucky when Chance the Rapper announced he would be opening as well. I mean....perfect line up!

Like last year, the show was at The Taste of Chicago at the Petrillo Music Shell (Columbus Dr. & Jackson Blvd.). The setup was identical to last years, complete with VIP seating along the side rail, food tent stocked with everything from fish tacos to Lottery cookies, private tables and seating for chatting with other attendees, and clear views to seeing the acts enter and exit the stage. Not bad at all. If I wasn't feeling lucky enough, I just happened to be walking by as Quest Love was walking in. I looked up and was like "oh, hey!". To that he responded "What's up?". My night was made!

 photo file__storage_emulated_0_DCIM_Camera_20160706_171255_zpsfdsqpyx2.jpg

They had quite a turn out and we were so excited the rain stayed away! The security did say that after Chance the Rapper announced he was playing, the seats sold out within minutes. What a perfect night for food, music, beautiful city views, and hanging with my husband!

(The Roots)

After the show we decided to take the long way out and check out the Taste of Chicago a bit. We grabbed a few yummy treats and took a few more photos. All in all, we both had a great night. The Roots had so much energy, actually all three acts did...which means I didn't sit down once! I lost my voice from singing so much and my face actually hurt from smiling so much! I love a night of dancing while listening to bands that I enjoy. It's even better when you get a great hook up and get to see said bands so close! Thanks again Illinois State Lottery, Luck is everywhere!

Classic Summer Style

 photo IMG_5168_zpsmxwps6ul.jpg photo IMG_5171_zpso9ldcfbx.jpg photo IMG_5176_zps8polialj.jpg photo IMG_5169_zpsvafiej9s.jpg

You can't get more classic summer style then this outfit. I feel like this has been my summer uniform for many years now, and I don't see that changing anytime soon. Pairing a romper with a cute hat, great neutral sandals, and grabbing a cardigan for cooler temps at night is effortless and still feels put together. Although the cardigan and hat are from years past, I did get a few new rompers this season to refresh the weekly wardrobe. How cute is this orange number? I love that is was under $35 too!

 photo IMG_5182_zpsmxw9xni8.jpg photo IMG_5177_zpsvfhwjabd.jpg photo IMG_5174_zpsxqof0eyt.jpg

Mid-way through the shoot my bean asked if she could get in the shot. Of course you can my love, I honestly wish you would more! She's going through a bit of a shy phase lately and won't let me do "photo shoots" of her or with her. But taking phone pics and snapchats are OK....alright miss thing, you are the boss! :)
