Dressing to Music: Turning Page - Sleeping at Last

Yes, this song is from the Twilight:Breaking Dawn soundtrack, but I love it anyway. I'm a total dace show junkie and when the song was recently used on So You Think You Can Dance, I couldn't get it out of my head!
Here is the outfit I put together as I danced around my room to Sleeping at Last:

Top: Stylemint, Shorts: Forever 21, Shoes: C/O Sole Society, Sunnies: C/O Just Fabulous, Bracelet: I Spy DIY w/ Chloe & Isabel
The floral shorts felt romantic and the pattern mixing with the shoes was playful.
I tried something new with my hair that I saw on pinterest where you use a headband and tuck your hair in it all the way around. Kind of love it!

Outfit: Neon Neon

neon cutouttop orangeboller
Neon Top: Dots, Tank top and Shoes: Forever 21, Jeans: 7 for all Mankind, Bag: C/O Oasap, Necklace: Oh, Poppy!, Watch: Fossil, Wrist Wrap: C/O Kristin Hassan, Sunnies: ASOS

I went and saw the new Batman with my hubby and this is what I wore.
I love the idea of mixing neon's with neutrals (previous posts doing so here and here).
I don't generally wear two shades of neon colors together (well not since the early 90's anyway) and I loved how it look when I was styling my outfit. What do you guys think? Fans of neon's or leave it in the 90's?

Outfit: Casual Dinner Date

Top: Piperlime, Shorts: Victoria's Secret, Shoes: C/O Sole Society, Hat: E Street Denim, Bag: C/O Just Fabulous, Ring: House of Harlow, Wrist Wrap & Watch: Kristin Hassan, Love Bracelet: Etsy, Sunnies: Michael Kors, Necklace: Because I shop too Much- Micalah's Closet, Belt: Fossil

I had plans with a girlfriend this night to meet up for sushi dinner, but it was 6:00pm and still 89 degrees. I knew we were going to be sitting outside so  I went with what I had on all day (tee, shorts, and a hat). I then added the necklace, shoes, and bag to jazz it up a bit. Do you ever go out in cutoffs and a tee for a dinner date? I think everyone should! ;) So cozy and it's still cute.

Outfit: Carnival time with the Family

We took our kids our local carnival and this is what I wore:

carnival
sunglasses-2 Top: Forever 21, Shorts: Because I shop too much - Ariele's closet, Shoes: Target, Watch: Kristin Hassan, Stackable rings: Banana Republic, Sunnies: Threadsence, Belt: Fossil

It was about 100 degrees on this day so wearing the bare minimum was key. I got these short on Because I shop too Much and they are officially the shortest shorts I own. ;) I love them and think they were perfect for this super hot day out with my family.
Here are some shots of my crew. Little man thought it was too loud, so we were glad we grabbed his noise reduction headphones. The bean loved it, and had fun playing the duck game. She was majorly overheating so I grabbed a bobby pin out of my braided do and put it up real quick! Cute right? ;) Well, it worked!

Did you go to any festivals this year? We went to a few. I just love them. ;)

Outfit: Family Party

My nephew turned 5 and we attended a family party over the weekend. There was a inflatable water slide, pool, and lots of de-lish food. Here is what I wore: dress armparty partyatire bun
Dress: Threadsence, Shoes: Target, Earrings: Kate Spade, Bracelet: Kristin Hassan, Blute bracelet: Flee market in Florida

It was in the 90's this day and I knew a top knot with no bangs was the way to go. I also didn't know if I was going to join in the water fun (I did bring my bathing suit too after all) so I went with some mascara and called it a day on the makeup.
This light weight dress was just the thing to tote the wet kids around in and get some sun myself too.
What about you? What is your go to look for a super hot pool party kind of day?

Recipe: Mexican Tortilla Casserole

Here is another recipe I got out of Katie Workman's awesome book The mom 100 cookbook. The recipe calls for no meat, so I added organic ground beef, but kept everything else pretty much the same. He is what you are going to need:
glutenfree
Ingredients:
nonstick cooking spray
4 tortillas (I used corn)
1 onion, chopped
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 1/2 teaspoons chili powder
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1 can (14 ounces) chopped tomatoes, drained, with 1/3 cup juice reserved
1/4 cup tomato paste
2 cans (15.5 ounces) white, black, or kidney beans (or a mixture of any two), rinsed and drained
Koser or coarse salt and freshly ground black pepper
1 can (15 ounces)  sweet corn kernels, drained, or 1 1/2 cups frozen corn, thawed
3 cups coarsely chopped spinach
4 medium-size (8 inch) flour tortillas
2 cups (8 ounces) shredded monterey jack or cheddar cheese
Chopped fresh cilantro for garnish
Sour cream (optional) for serving
Salsa (optional) for serving

1) Preheat the oven to 400. Spray a 9-inch round cake pan, springform pan, or baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
2)Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the onion, cumin, chili powder, and garlic and cook until you can smell the spices and the onion is softened, about 3 minutes. Stir in the tomatoes with the 1/3 cup of reserved juice and the tomato paste, then stir in the beans. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Let the bean mixture simmer until everything is hot, about 3 minutes. Add the corn and spinach and stir until the spinach has wilted and everything is well blended and hot, about 3 minutes. Taste for seasonings, adding more salt and/or pepper as necessary.
3)Place 1 tortilla in the prepared cake pan. Spread the fourth of the bean and vegetable mixture evenly over the tortilla, then sprinkle 1/2 cup of the shredded cheese evenly over the top. Repeat with 3 more layers, ending with the last quarter of the bean mixture and then the last 1/2 cup of shredded cheese.
4)Bake the tortilla casserole until it is hot throughout and the top is lightly browned, about 20 minutes. Let the casserole sit for about 5 minutes, then cut it into wedges using a sharp knife and serve it with a spatula or better yet a pie server. Sprinkle the top with cilantro, if desired, and serve with sour cream and or salsa on the side, if you like.

I added avocado to the top and meat inside. Alter to fit your families needs and/or likes.

My family LOVED this dish. I LOVED that they were eating so many veggies and had no idea! That my friends is what they call a win win. ;)

Statement Necklace Inventory

I was recently asked by Kaitlyn to borrow a statement necklace for a wedding she was attending. At first I was like, "I'm sure I have a few that would work with your dress" and then I actually looked. I had more then a few for her to choose from. Here is what I pulled out of my jewelry case: statementnecklaces
2nd Row: Pree Brulee, Forever 21, T plus J Designs
3rd Row: Just Fabulous, Windsor Fashions, J.Crew
4th Row: Francesca's, (triangle teal one) Pree Brulee, (silver) Baublebar, Banana Republic

After taking the picture of these 13 necklaces, I realized I had a place where I hang more, but metal statement necklaces. When Kaitlyn came over to choose, I had 18 laid out for her.
I have to say, I was surprised at how many statement necklaces are currently in my collection. I don't think this is too many though. In fact, I may need to find a few more in different colors (yellow, orange, purple, hot pink!!).
How about you? How many statement necklaces are in your collection?

Outfit: Dinner & Drinks with a Fellow Blogger

I went out for dinner and drinks with a fellow blogger and friend Lindsay of K+L the blog. Here is what I wore:
girlsnight sunglasses skullclutch justfab Dress: Swap w/ Kaitlyn (similar) (similar), Clutch and Sunnis: C/O Just Fabulous, Cuff: C/O Kristin Hassan, Earrings: Kate Spade, Shoes: C/O Sole Society

I am beyond in love with my new clutch! I refer to him as diamond eyes (yes he's a boy) and I think you guys are going to get sick of me using just this clutch and nothing else from this point on! lol
Since we were going out for dinner and drinks, I wore a simple dress, nude heels, gold cuff and earrings, an amazing clutch, and teal sunnies. To finish off the look on this 90 plus degree day I went with a top knot. Let's be honest, who wants 2 feet of hair down in that heat?! Not me! ;)
Myself and Lindsay had so much fun. We sipped (does a bottle count as sipped? Hey, it was half price night!) prosecco, ate an amazing gluten free meal, and caught up! It's nice to get away sometimes for a few hours and giggle and have a great night. That's just what I did!
